Let's Be Real
Today, there is a reason I chose this photo for my entry. You will hear this phrase all through your life. People will tell you, right from childhood, that you should never expect anything from anyone.
"Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disapppointed."
"When you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment."
Notice the pattern??? It's almost as if we, as individuals are not to have any type of standards to expect from people, because no matter what, we will be disappointed. Sorry, I call that a "cop out". I know, there are people who set impossible high standards from others... so much so, that in order for the person to achieve those standards, they would have to become another person entirely... To me, THAT is NOT okay!!!
What I am trying to say is if we don't place any expectations on people and things, we lower our own standards to appease others. You can't cheapen yourself because someone isn't willing to rise to your level. I am not saying that in an ignorant way... I am not saying people should look down on each other; it's more of an accountability thing.
For example, if you have a close friend, who does something that really bothers you, and makes you feel uncomfortable ~ say they like to poke fun of something they know you're sensitive about, or they act inappropriate at events that are rather important to you... but they know you will be "okay" with it because you're besties. That's just taking advantage of your kindness, with an entire lack of respect for you.
Would you not EXPECT change???
These are just tiny examples of expectations. It's not just about accountability, it's about respect. I have turned my back on many people who cannot respect what is expected of them; and I know there are people who have walked out of my life because I don't reach their expectations neither. It is all a part of life.... so to teach children to expect nothing in order to avoid disappointment is doing a disservice to them.
I am going to end this blurb off by saying this... Imagine how much better our world would be if our world in general ~ our government ~ would bring back their expectations and standards of what is required to be a citizen of our countries. Think about it!!! A lot of what is going on, would not be happening. People would be held accountable for their disrespect of the country and it's laws. We all wouldn't be walking on eggshells to accommodate those who are trying to tear apart what was once a peaceful and "working" wheel (so to speak).
Once again, let's be real... expectations are required for the wheel to keep turning the right way; without them, it's a free for all. So please don't tell me we shouldn't have expectations without disappointments.
That is my two cents. You may not agree; and that is one of the great things about living in a free country... at least for now!!!
